'Oh, such a grand bairn!' she panted out. 'The finest lad that ever breathed! But the doctor says missis must go: he says she's been in a consumption these many months. I heard him tell Mr. Hindley: and now she has nothing to keep her, and she'll be dead before winter. You must e home directly. You're to nurse it, Nelly: to feed it with sugar and milk, and take care of it day and night. I wish I were you, because it will be all yours when there is no missis!'
'But is she very ill?' I asked, flinging down my rake and tying my bonnet.
'I guess she is; yet she looks bravely,' replied the girl, 'and she talks as if she thought of living to see it grow a man. She's out of her head for joy, it's such a beauty! If I were her I'm certain I should not die: I should get better at the bare sight of it, in spite of Kenneth. I was fairly mad at him. Dame Archer brought the cherub down to master, in the house, and his face just began to light up, when the old croaker steps forward, and says he - "Earnshaw, it's a blessing your wife has been spared to leave you this son. When she came, I felt convinced we shouldn't keep her long; and now, I must tell you, the winter will probably finish her. Don't take on, and fret about it too much: it can't be helped. And besides, you should have known better than to choose such a rush of a lass!"'
'And what did the master answer?' I inquired.
'I think he swore: but I didn't mind him, I was straining to see the bairn,' and she began again to describe it rapturously. I, as zealous as herself, hurried eagerly home to admire, on my part; though I was very sad for Hindley's sake. He had room in his heart only for two idols - his wife and himself: he doted on both, and adored one, and I couldn't conceive how he would bear the loss.
When we got to Wuthering Heights, there he stood at the front door; and, as I passed in, I asked, 'how was the baby?'
'Nearly ready to run about, Nell!' he replied, putting on a cheerful smile.
'And the mistress?' I ventured to inquire; 'the doctor says she's - '
'Damn the doctor!' he interrupted, reddening. 'Frances is quite right: she'll be perfectly well by this time next week. Are you going up-stairs? will you tell her that I'll e, if she'll promise not to talk. I left her because she would not hold her tongue; and she must - tell her Mr. Kenneth says she must be quiet.'
I delivered this message to Mrs. Earnshaw; she seemed in flighty spirits, and replied merrily, 'I hardly spoke a word, Ellen, and there he has gone out twice, crying. Well, say I promise I won't speak: but that does not bind me not to laugh at him!'
Poor soul! Till within a week of her death that gay heart never failed her; and her husband persisted doggedly, nay, furiously, in affirming her health improved every day. When Kenneth warned him that his medicines were useless at that stage of the malady, and he needn't put him to further expense by attending her, he retorted, 'I know you need not - she's well - she does not want any more attendance from you! She never was in a consumption. It was a fever; and it is gone: her pulse is as slow as mine now, and her cheek as cool.'
He told his wife the same story, and she seemed to believe him; but one night, while leaning on his shoulder, in the act of saying she thought she should be able to get up to-morrow, a fit of coughing took her - a very slight one - he raised her in his arms; she put her two hands about his neck, her face changed, and she was dead.
As the girl had anticipated, the child Hareton fell wholly into my hands. Mr. Earnshaw, provided he saw him healthy and never heard him cry, was contented, as far as regarded him. For himself, he grew desperate: his sorrow was of that kind that will not lament. He neither wept nor prayed; he cursed and defied: execrated God and man, and gave himself up to reckless dissipation. The servants could not bear his tyrannical and evil conduct long: Joseph and I were the only two that would stay. I had not the heart to leave my charge; and besides, you know, I had been his foster-sister, and excused his behaviour more readily than a stranger would. Joseph remained to hector over tenants and labourers; and because it was his vocation to be where he had plenty of wickedness to reprove.
The master's bad ways and bad panions formed a pretty example for Catherine and Heathcliff. His treatment of the latter was enough to make a fiend of a saint. And, truly, it appeared as if the lad WERE possessed of something diabolical at that period. He delighted to witness Hindley degrading himself past redemption; and became daily more notable for savage sullenness and ferocity. I could not half tell what an infernal house we had. The curate dropped calling, and nobody decent came near us, at last; unless Edgar Linton's visits to Miss Cathy might be an exception. At fifteen she was the queen of the country-side; she had no peer; and she did turn out a haughty, headstrong creature! I own I did not like her, after infancy was past; and I vexed her frequently by trying to bring down her arrogance: she never took an aversion to me, though. She had a wondrous constancy to old attachments: even Heathcliff kept his hold on her affections unalterably; and young Linton, with all his superiority, found it difficult to make an equally deep impression. He was my late master: that is his portrait over the fireplace. It used to hang on one side, and his wife's on the other; but hers has been removed, or else you might see something of what she was. Can you make that out?
Mrs. Dean raised the candle, and I discerned a soft-featured face, exceedingly resembling the young lady at the Heights, but more pensive and amiable in expression. It formed a sweet picture. The long light hair curled slightly on the temples; the eyes were large and serious; the figure almost too graceful. I did not marvel how Catherine Earnshaw could forget her first friend for such an individual. I marvelled much how he, with a mind to correspond with his person, could fancy my idea of Catherine Earnshaw.
'A very agreeable portrait,' I observed to the house-keeper. 'Is it like?'
'Yes,' she answered; 'but he looked better when he was animated; that is his everyday countenance: he wanted spirit in general.'
Catherine had kept up her acquaintance with the Lintons since her five-weeks' residence among them; and as she had no temptation to show her rough side in their pany, and had the sense to be aed of being rude where she experienced such invariable courtesy, she imposed unwittingly on the old lady and gentleman by her ingenious cordiality; gained the admiration of Isabella, and the heart and soul of her brother: acquisitions that flattered her from the first - for she was full of ambition - and led her to adopt a double without exactly intending to deceive any one. In the place where she heard Heathcliff termed a 'vulgar young ruffian,' and 'worse than a brute,' she took care not to act like him; but at home she had small inclination to practise politeness that would only be laughed at, and restrain an unruly nature when it would bring her neither credit nor praise.

Anna: (at the airport) Tom, could you let go of my hand?
Tom: Sorry, it's just I get nervous flying.
Anna: Well, we've landed in Marseille now so you're safe… oh, I like your passport photo.
Tom: Oh do you?
Anna: I didn't know your middle name was Stanley.
Tom: Yup,翻譯, after my great-great-grandfather.
Anna: Really? Come on, we need to get a taxi. Taxi! Taxi!
Narrator: Hello again.
Anna: Not really. It was OK speaking to them on the phone but seeing them faceto-face is quite scary.
Narrator: You'll be fine.
Anna: Oh yes – beat the price of the competitor but get them to make a bigger order.
Tom: Oh look, we're here now. Now Anna, I hope you don't mind me saying, but just leave the talking to me. Right?
Anna: Err, well…
Tom: Oh, Madame Brown, ciao, great to see you.
Trader: What?
Anna: Monsieur Brown. Bonjour. I'm Anna from Tip Top Trading. This is my colleague Tom. Thank you for sparing the time to see us.
Trader: No problem. Did you have a good flight?
Tom: It was great. I love those little bottles of wine they give out… I kept a few with me if you fancy a glass of vin rouge?
Anna: I think we should sit down and discuss business.
Trader: Of course.
Tom: Yeah, yeah, good idea.
Anna: Now, I believe Tutti Fruity has offered you a good price but, as I said on the phone, we can beat that.
Trader: Yes you did.
Tom: Did you Anna?!
Anna: But to get this price you've got to buy lots more.
Narrator: Anna!
Tom: What she means is… our Imperial Lemons are made with our unique laser curve technology. They are hard wearing and a joy to have on display in any shop window or restaurant.
Anna: Tom, that's amazing!
Tom: I read it on the back of the box.
Anna: So, we really feel that we have a product that you'll be proud to display.
And to get this fantastic price you just need to place an order of 10,000.
Tom: And we can even throw in a free sample of our new Perfect Peach range.
Anna: Each lemon comes with a satisfaction guarantee - I know you won't be disappointed.
Trader: Hmm. It sounds good. OK, I think you have a deal,
Anna: OK. I would be grateful if you could just sign the contract. We'll get the lemons to you as quickly as we can. Tom, do you have a pen?
Tom: Erm, no actually. It was in my bag yesterday but it's gone… it was a nice, a good one too.
Trader: No problem. I have a pen (signs the contract). There you go.
Anna: Thank you. It was a pleasure doing business with you. We'll get those lemons to you in two weeks' time.
Trader: Perfect.
Narrator: Good work. Thank you for sparing the time to see us. Each lemon comes with a satisfaction guarantee - I know you won't be disappointed. I would be grateful if you could just sign the contract. Thank you. It was a pleasure doing business with you.
(Back at the airport)
Anna: Oh no, look, our flight to London is cancelled! It's the last one today. What are we going to do?
Tom: Well, I guess we're just going to have to stay here for the night. I'll sort out a hotel.
Narrator:

Ups and Downs of Elevator Etiquette坐
Amy.
(Office ambience)
A:Hi Chen Hao, you look upset. What's wrong?
A:Why couldn't you get off?
A:Sometimes people on elevators can be quite rude and treat others with sheer indifference. They don't seem to realize that the rules of manners apply to elevators as well.
A:To start with, if you had waited to get on the elevator, you would have been near the front and not had to push your way through the crowd to exit.
A:There's always another elevator.
A:When you got on, you should have stepped to the side near the door so you would be out of the way of others trying to follow.
A:You reminded me. I am planning to see the new media exhibit on the 20th floor this afternoon. Would you like to go with me?
******
Amy
A:At the least the man at the front of the elevator who was not getting off until the top floor was polite.
A:Another polite move when you are standing by the elevator panel is to figure out which buttons hold the doors open and which ones close them.
A:As an added courtesy, offer to push the appropriate floor for the people who can't reach the buttons.
A:One last thing...when the elevator arrives and the door opens, stand back. Give people room to exit. Besides if you don't, you could get run over.
C:Amy,
A:Elevator etiquette is simple. Be considerate. If you will be exiting soon, stand near the door. If you will be one of the last to get off, stand near the back.

A:Youd be thanking me for a job well done and would be explaining how you look forward to continuing to see good work from me. Furthermore, I would anticipate your explaining how you really appreciated my putting in extra time on some key projects and how my creative thinking helped come up with some innovative solutions to existing problems,翻譯.

I don’t believe that he will win.
But I don’t believe he means any harm.
I don’t believe she will like the idea.
I don’t believe so. /I believe not. 如:
A:Do you think he will come?
B:No, I don’t believe so. [I believe not.
A:Shakespeare was born in I564,wasn’t he?
B:I believe so.

英語“再見”最長暂最个别的用語噹屬good―bye, 也可寫做good―by或goodbye, 源於God be with you (願上帝戰你同在), 是離別時的一句祝語。
See you!See you again或 See you later (回想見);See you tomorrow (來日見);So long等于So long as we are parted
客人個別答復:You, too 或Thank you。 Thank you for your coming與看客或客人道別。
若兩人第一次會晤, 在辨别時, “再見”可說 “It’s nice meeting you” 或 “I am glad to have met you”。
若是朋友出遠門,可用多種抒發办法,如: “I wish you good luck”; “ I wish you a good journey”; “ Success to you” 或間接簡單天讲 “Good journey!”; “Nice journey!”
kiss good-by to (somebody)
wave good-by to (somebody)
blow (somebody) a kiss或throw a kiss to (somebody) (予人以)飛吻。

M: People normally drink a large beer that is usually served warm.
M: Well, you can order whatever you want, but I need to bum a couple of dollars, if you don't mind.
M: What I mean is, can I borrow a couple of dollars from you.
M: Yes. But don't use this word for big things. For example, you would not ask your friend, “Can I bum your car?”
M: Yeah, it's usually used when asking for something small, like a piece of gum or candy.
M: No, small things you don't need to return, such as gum and candies.
M: You are right Li Hua. But if you feel cold at a friend's home and you asked to bum a sweater, then you would return it when you were going to leave.
M: Yes, if you will let me bum a couple bucks tonight, I promise to pay you back tomorrow.
M: Okay. Two beers please!
M: A girl I used to hang out with acted the same way. Whenever a group of us went out, she would always ask to bum money. It got to be a real turn-off.
等等,a real turn-off?
M: No, a turn-off is something that repels someone.
M: Yes, that's right. Let me give you an example. Your ex-boyfriend always smoked cigarettes around you, that was a real turn-off.
M: A girl I once dated always interrupted me whenever I was talking. That was a real turn-off.
我还有一個伴侶把淨衣服在房間裏四處治扔, that was also a turn-off.
M: See, you've learned how to use turn-off. By the way, I also have dirty clothes lying around my apartment. Does that bother you?
M: Ok, I'll try to clean it up.

Lily Zheng
June Yang
Lena Kong
Ally Zhang
Moon Lu
張 波Bob Zhang
Caron Xu
Lisa Jiang
Jill Wang
David Jiang
Irene Zhang
Ben Li
Jet Li
Tim Xie
James Hou
許環山Sam Xu
Lynn Zhu
May Wang
Jane Wu
Sandy Wu
Helen Guan
Fanny Chen
Sharon Li
Susan Wang
Jason Zhou
Catherine Luo
Diane Dong
Vincent Cui
Tracy Li
Hunter Huang
Maple Shen
Fountain Liu
Stellar Wang
Ice Li
Tiger Yuan
Sky Qi
Cloud Bai
River Liu
Apple Chen

For most of us, the purpose of the holidays is to bring peace, love, and goodwill towards all. Yet, for many, the holiday season often meansstress, fatigue, pressure, disappointment and loneliness。
These feelings, often known as the "holiday blues," may be even more prevalent, due to the emotional turmoil of the past few months, not tomention the unsteady economy。
Experts say even the more ritual tasks of shopping, decorating,late-night parties, cooking, planning and family reunions can be holiday stressors。
In addition, the psychological phenomenon known as seasonal affective disorder, or SAD, may bring a specific type of depression related to winter’s shorter days and longer nights。
"Certainly just because it’s the holidays doesn’t mean people aregoing to be happy," says Dr. Doug Jacobs of Harvard University. "Andthis will be a particularly hard holiday for some who are dealing witha lost job, debt, or even a lost loved one."
And with family reunions becoming less frequent events over theyears, there is now the added pressure of getting just one chance toget it all right. "Families are much more disparate now. The disappointment and sense of alienation that often results from familygatherings, is actually a realization that the fantasy is notmet,翻譯." says John Stutesman, a clinical psychologist at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago。
Still, say experts, the blues should be addressed. The most essential step, says Stutesman, is for the individual to acknowledge their feelings and the reason for their with drawal. "Denial will only compound the stress they’re feeling."
Stutesman recommends people do things that are normally comfortingin order to get a handle on the holiday stress. "If they’re feeling a little blue, they should try to do things personally satisfying for them. Maybe this is exercise, cooking, reading a book, or massage."

Your ticket, please.
Your passport, please.
Your name, please.
2. Here’s your umbrella and your coat.
Here’s 是here is 的縮寫, 意義是“那是”。
3. This is not my umbrella.
4. Sorry, sir.
―Excuse me, may I use your pen? ―
―Oh. sorry, you cannot. ―
5. No, it isn’t.
Is this your ticket?
Yes, it is. (而常常不說: Yes, this is.)

As we move forward into the New Year, I encourage all Americans to give thanks to the Almighty for His many blessings, and to join with me in reaffirming our mitment to helping people around the world achieve peace and freedom. At the dawn of this New Year, America is a land of justice, liberty, and tolerance. FLIGHT OF YOUTH
Out of the eater came something to eat;/ Out of the strong came something sweet. What is sweeter than honey? / What is stronger than a lion?
My fatherland is Arabia,
Though in England they roast me brown.
I'm ground up inside a mill,
And tortured with scalding water,
And then they pour milk over me,
And drink me at their leisure.
1) The beginning of eternity,
The end of time and space.
The beginning of every end,
And the end of every place.
將句中提到的單詞“eternity, time, space, end, place”按炤字面意思進行拆分,便可获得謎底:“The letter E”。
2)What starts with T,ends with T and full of T?謎底是“A teapot”。
3)The longest word in the world.
What is he that builds stronger than either the mason, the shipwright or the carpenter? The gallows-maker,for that frame outlives a thousand tenants.
1) What is the difference between a presidential candidate and an overworked secretary?
謎底是“One can't wait to get into office and the other can't wait to get out of the office.”總統候選人(presidential candidate)急不可待地要上任(get into office),而工作過度勞乏的祕書則等待著放工(get out of the office)回傢歇息。
2)What is the cheapest way to see the world?
謎底是“Buy an atlas”。買一張地圖(buy an atlas)就能够見到整個世界(see the world)了。
What goes up and never goes down?
Why should you never marry a tennis player?
謎底是“Because love means nothing to them”。
1)Why shouldn't you cry if a cow slips on the ice?
Because it's no use crying over spilt milk.”
英語中成語“覆火難支”是這樣表達的:“It's no use crying over spilt milk.”
2)What's a sculptor's motto?
All work and no clay makes Jack a dull boy.”
All work and no clay makes Jack a dull boy.(只事情沒有土,聰明孩子也變傻。) All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.(只工做不游玩,聰明孩子也變愚。)
I.字謎:
1) There is a thing that is the first to pity and the last to help.
2) I am the beginning of sorrow, and the end of sickness.
You cannot express happiness without me;
yet I am in the midst of crosses.
I am always in risk, yet never in danger.
You may find me in the sun,
but I am never out of darkness.
3) My first is nothing but a name;
My second still more small;
My whole of so much smaller fame,
It has no name at all.
4) If the English alphabet goes from A to Z, what goes from Z to A?
II.
1) At night they e
Without being fetched,
And by day they are lost
Without being stolen.
2) As round as an apple,
As deep as a pail;
It never cries out,
Till it's caught by the tail.
3) My sides are firmly laced about,
Yet nothing is within;
You'll think my head is strange indeed,
Being nothing else but skin.
4) Over the water,
And under the water,
And never touch the water.
5) I never was, am always to be,
No one ever saw me, nor ever will
And yet I am the confidence of all
To live and breathe on this terrestrial ball.
III.
1) Why are Saturdays and Sundays so strong?
2)swheresdo smart dogs refuse to shop?
3) Would you rather an elephant kill you, or a gorilla?
4) When do elephants have sixteen feet?
5) Which is faster, heat or cold?
6) What's every baby's motto?-
答案:
I.字謎:1) The letter P 2)The letter S 3)Nameless 4) Zebra
II. 1)Stars 2)A bell 3)A drum 4)A girl crossing a bridge with a pail of water on her head. 5)Tomorrow
III.
1)Because the rest are weekdays.
2)At flea markets.
3)I'd rather he kill the gorilla.
4)When there are four of them.
5)Heat. You can catch cold.
6) If at first you don't succeed, cry, cry again. If at first you don't succeed, cry, cry again.(一次哭鬧不胜利,哭鬧再哭鬧)是仿照諺語If at first you don't succeed, try, try again.(一次不胜利,尽力再尽力)杜撰而來。

Pine
She pined away with grief.
Privately raised pany bonds
Chia's capital market regulator is encouraging financial support for small businesses by accelerating the launch of a unique national over-the-counter market and a pilot program for issuing privately raised pany bonds.

Eileenkan:
Klmt:
Kennyfang:

Even short bouts(一輪,一陣) of light exercise such as strolling(漫步) can help smokers quit by reducing cigarette cravings(盼望) and withdrawal symptoms(症候), say scientists at the University of Exeter in the UK.
The study is published in the April edition of the journal Addiction.
The scientists suggest that a short session of moderate(適度的) exercise, lasting for as little as five minutes, is sufficient(足夠的) to reduce cravings for a cigarette.
"People who struggle to give up smoking could make things much easier for themselves by taking just moderate exercise," said lead author Dr Adrian Taylor of the University of Exeter's School of Sport and Health Sciences.
"Not only may it help prevent weight gain but it will also help control the cravings and withdrawal symptoms that often lead to relapse," he added.
With today, 14th March, being National No Smoking Day in the UK, it is expected that one third of UK smokers (around 4 million people) will try to give up and 85,翻譯,000 will do so for good.
Dr Taylor and his co-authors reviewed 12 studies on the effect of a single session of exercise pared to no exercise on three oute measures: cigarette cravings, withdrawal symptoms and smoking behaviour. All reported beneficial impact on (對...之影響)at least one of the three oute measures.
The papers they reviewed covered between them nearly 1,400 people who rarely exercised and in all but one study stopped smoking during the period of the experiment.
The participants(參减者,參與者) were assessed(已審估的) while they were doing the exercise using single and multi-item questions on cravings, symptoms of withdrawal and negative affect, the results of which reduced rapidly during exercise and remained reduced for up to 50 minutes afterwards.
Most of the studies on withdrawal symptoms showed a significant reduction in 2 of 6 symptoms: stress, restlessness, irritability, anxiety, tension and poor concentration.
Most of the studies showed increasing reductions in cravings and withdrawal symptoms with increasing duration and intensity of exercise, but even a short 5 minute seated exercise showed beneficial effects.
Four of the studies reported that the delay in lighting up the first cigarette after doing the exercise lasted two and sometimes three times longer.
Three studies showed that mood improved with exercise, while one did not.
The review team concluded that even small doses of exercise should be remended to help people manage cigarette cravings and withdrawal symptoms.
Dr Taylor said "If a drug revealed the same effects it would immediately be marketed as a valuable aid to help people quit smoking or cut down."
He and his colleagues called for further research to find out what the underlying mechanisms could be such as stress and the neurobiology(神經生物壆)involved. This could then lead to more effective and practical ways to help people give up smoking.
Dr Taylor and his team at the University of Exeter are also doing research using brain imaging. They are looking at how exercise affects the brain's mood centres, which could be how the appetite for cigarettes is reduced. They are supporting a national project called "Walk-2-Quit" and want to see exercise remended by National Health Service smoking cessation clinics.

Passover&Easter -
Remarks of President Barack Obama
Weekly Address
Saturday, April 11, 2009
I speak to you today during a time that is holy and filled with meaning for believers around the world. Earlier this week, Jewish people gathered with family and friends to recite the stories of their ancestors’ struggle and ultimate liberation. Tomorrow, Christians of all denominations will e together to rejoice and remember the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
These are two very different holidays with their own very different traditions. But it seems fitting that we mark them both during the same week. For in a larger sense, they are both moments of reflection and renewal. They are both occasions to think more deeply about the obligations we have to ourselves and the obligations we have to one another, no matter who we are, where we e from, or what faith we practice.
This idea – that we are all bound up, as Martin Luther King once said, in "a single garment of destiny"– is a lesson of all the world’s great religions. And never has it been more important for us to reaffirm that lesson than it is today – at a time when we face tests and trials unlike any we have seen in our time. An economic crisis that recognizes no borders. Violent extremism that’s claimed the lives of innocent men, women, and children from Manhattan to Mumbai. An unsustainable dependence on foreign oil and other sources of energy that pollute our air and water and threaten our planet. The proliferation of the world’s most dangerous weapons, the persistence of deadly disease, and the recurrence of age-old conflicts.
These are challenges that no single nation, no matter how powerful, can confront alone. The United States must lead the way. But our best chance to solve these unprecedented problems es from acting in concert with other nations. That is why I met with leaders of the G-20 nations to ensure that the world’s largest economies take strong and unified action in the face of the global economic crisis. Together, we’ve taken steps to stimulate growth, restore the flow of credit, open markets, and dramatically reform our financial regulatory system to prevent such crises from occurring again – steps that will lead to job creation at home.
It is only by working together that we will finally defeat 21st century security threats like al Qaeda. So it was heartening that our NATO allies united in Strasbourg behind our strategy in Afghanistan and Pakistan, and contributed important resources to support our effort there.
It is only by coordinating with countries around the world that we will stop the spread of the world’s most dangerous weapons. That is why I laid out a strategy in Prague for us to work with Russia and other nations to stop the proliferation of nuclear weapons; to secure nuclear materials from terrorists; and, ultimately, to free the world from the menace of a nuclear nightmare.
And it is only by building a new foundation of mutual trust that we will tackle some of our most entrenched problems. That is why, in Turkey, I spoke to members of Parliament and university students about rising above the barriers of race, region, and religion that too often divide us.
With all that is at stake today, we cannot afford to talk past one another. We can’t afford to allow old differences to prevent us from making progress in areas of mon concern. We can’t afford to let walls of mistrust stand. Instead, we have to find – and build on – our mutual interests. For it is only when people e together, and seek mon ground, that some of that mistrust can begin to fade. And that is where progress begins.
Make no mistake: we live in a dangerous world, and we must be strong and vigilant in the face of these threats. But let us not allow whatever differences we have with other nations to stop us from ing together around those solutions that are essential to our survival and success.
As we Passover, Easter, and this time of renewal, let’s find strength in our shared resolve and purpose in our mon aspirations. And if we can do that, then not only will we fulfill the sacred meaning of these holy days, but we will fulfill the promise of our country as a leader around the world.

FLIGHT OF YOUTH
Out of the eater came something to eat;/ Out of the strong came something sweet. What is sweeter than honey? / What is stronger than a lion?
My fatherland is Arabia,
Though in England they roast me brown.
I'm ground up inside a mill,
And tortured with scalding water,
And then they pour milk over me,
And drink me at their leisure.
1) The beginning of eternity,
The end of time and space.
The beginning of every end,
And the end of every place.
將句中提到的單詞“eternity, time, space, end, place”按炤字面意义進行拆分,便可获得謎底:“The letter E”。
英語中成語“覆水難支”是這樣表達的:“It's no use crying over spilt milk.”
2)What's a sculptor's motto?
All work and no clay makes Jack a dull boy.”
All work and no clay makes Jack a dull boy.(只工作沒有土,聰明孩子也變傻。) All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.(只工作不游玩,聰明孩子也變愚。)
I.字謎:
1) There is a thing that is the first to pity and the last to help.
2) I am the beginning of sorrow, and the end of sickness.

You may find me in the sun,
but I am never out of darkness.
3) My first is nothing but a name;
My second still more small;
My whole of so much smaller fame,
It has no name at all.
4) If the English alphabet goes from A to Z, what goes from Z to A?
II,法翻中.
1) At night they e
Without being fetched,
And by day they are lost
Without being stolen.
2) As round as an apple,
As deep as a pail;
It never cries out,
Till it's caught by the tail.
3) My sides are firmly laced about,
Yet nothing is within;
You'll think my head is strange indeed,
Being nothing else but skin.
6) What's every baby's motto?-
I.字謎:1) The letter P 2)The letter S 3)Nameless 4) Zebra
If at first you don't succeed, cry, cry again.(一次哭鬧不胜利,哭鬧再哭鬧)是模拟諺語If at first you don't succeed, try, try again.(一次不胜利,尽力再尽力)诬捏而來。

I'll just fetch a little sewing, and then I'll sit as long as you please. But you've caught cold: I saw you shivering, and you must have some gruel to drive it out.'
The worthy woman bustled off, and I crouched nearer the fire; my head felt hot, and the rest of me chill: moreover, I was excited, almost to a pitch of foolishness, through my nerves and brain. This caused me to feel, not unfortable, but rather fearful (as I am still) of serious effects from the incidents of to-day and yesterday. She returned presently, bringing a smoking basin and a basket of work; and, having placed the former on the hob, drew in her seat, evidently pleased to find me so panionable.
Before I came to live here, she menced - waiting no farther invitation to her story - I was almost always at Wuthering Heights; because my mother had nursed Mr. Hindley Earnshaw, that was Hareton's father, and I got used to playing with the children: I ran errands too, and helped to make hay, and hung about the farm ready for anything that anybody would set me to. One fine summer morning - it was the beginning of harvest, I remember - Mr. Earnshaw, the old master, came down-stairs, dressed for a journey; and, after he had told Joseph what was to be done during the day, he turned to Hindley, and Cathy, and me - for I sat eating my porridge with them - and he said, speaking to his son, 'Now, my bonny man, I'm going to Liverpool to-day, what shall I bring you? You may choose what you like: only let it be little, for I shall walk there and back: sixty miles each way, that is a long spell!' Hindley named a fiddle, and then he asked Miss Cathy; she was hardly six years old, but she could ride any horse in the stable, and she chose a whip. He did not forget me; for he had a kind heart, though he was rather severe sometimes. He promised to bring me a pocketful of apples and pears, and then he kissed his children, said good-bye, and set off.
It seemed a long while to us all - the three days of his absence - and often did little Cathy ask when he would be home. Mrs. Earnshaw expected him by supper-time on the third evening, and she put the meal off hour after hour; there were no signs of his ing, however, and at last the children got tired of running down to the gate to look. Then it grew dark; she would have had them to bed, but they begged sadly to be allowed to stay up; and, just about eleven o'clock, the door-latch was raised quietly, and in stepped the master. He threw himself into a chair, laughing and groaning, and bid them all stand off, for he was nearly killed - he would not have such another walk for the three kingdoms.

1. Head Start
U.S. government tries to give extra - help for those underprivileged children before entering first grade.
Many poor parents send their children to Head Start.
To know more colloquial expressions is a head start in learning English.
2. blue blood
是指有錢人或身世富傢的人 (rich or wealthy people)
例如:
Some people do not want to admit that they have blue blood.
Many blue blooded children attend this private school.
3. bed of roses
Life is not always a bed of roses.
4. from soup to nuts
This store sells everything from soup to nuts.
My office is supplied from soup to nuts.
Mr. Greenspan knows economics from A to Z.
5. off-limits
The library will be off-limits to the public until re-carpeting project is pleted.
The teachers have the use of a john that is off-limits to students.(壆死不得利用教師廁所。)
6. real bomb
The show was a real bomb, so I cut out early. cut out = leave)
(very bad)
例如:
A U.S. fighter dropped a bomb over Iraq.
(作名詞)= A U.S. fighter bombed Iraq.
The police found a real bomb in the building.

Statement released after the President rescinds Mexico City Policy -
Yesterday, President Obama rescinded the "Mexico City Policy" and released the following statement:
It is clear that the provisions of the Mexico City Policy are unnecessarily broad and unwarranted under current law, and for the past eight years, they have undermined efforts to promote safe and effective voluntary family planning in developing countries. For these reasons, it is right for us to rescind this policy and restore critical efforts to protect and empower women and promote global economic development.
For too long, international family planning assistance has been used as a political wedge issue, the subject of a back and forth debate that has served only to divide us. I have no desire to continue this stale and fruitless debate.
It is time that we end the politicization of this issue. In the ing weeks,翻譯公司, my Administration will initiate a fresh conversation on family planning, working to find areas of mon ground to best meet the needs of women and families at home and around the world.
I have directed my staff to reach out to those on all sides of this issue to achieve the goal of reducing unintended pregnancies. They will also work to promote safe motherhood, reduce maternal and infant mortality rates and increase educational and economic opportunities for women and girls.
In addition, I look forward to working with Congress to restore U.S. financial support for the U.N. Population Fund. By resuming funding to UNFPA, the U.S. will be joining 180 other donor nations working collaboratively to reduce poverty, improve the health of women and children, prevent HIV/AIDS and provide family planning assistance to women in 154 countries.
President Bush Discusses Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act Legislation -
October 10, 20
THE PRESIDENT: Good morning. In August, Congress passed the Protect America Act, a bill to modernize the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act of 1978. This new law strengthened our ability to collect foreign intelligence on terrorists overseas, and it closed a dangerous gap in our intelligence. Since this important measure took effect, our intelligence professionals have been able to gather critical that would have been missed without this authority. And keeping this authority is essential to keeping America safe.
Unfortunately, when Congress passed the Protect America Act they set its provisions to expire in February. The problem is the threat to America is not going to expire in February. So Congress must make a choice: Will they keep the intelligence gap closed by making this law permanent? Or will they limit our ability to collect this intelligence and keep us safe, staying a step ahead of the terrorists who want to attack us?
My administration will work with members of Congress from both sides of the aisle to reach an agreement on a bill that will allow us to protect our country. The final bill must meet certain criteria: It must give our intelligence professionals the tools and flexibility they need to protect our country. It must keep the intelligence gap firmly closed, and ensure that protections intended for the American people are not extended to terrorists overseas who are plotting to harm us. And it must grant liability protection to panies who are facing multi-billion-dollar lawsuits only because they are believed to have assisted in the efforts to defend our nation following the 9/11 attacks.
When Congress presents me with a bill, I will ask the Director of National Intelligence whether it meets these criteria. And if it does, I will sign it into law.
Today, the House Intelligence and Judiciary mittees are considering a proposed bill that instead of making the Protect America Act permanent would take us backward. While the House bill is not final, my administration has serious concerns about some of its provisions, and I am hopeful that the deficiencies in the bill can be fixed.
Congress and the President have no higher responsibility than protecting the American people from enemies who attacked our country -- and who want to do so again. Terrorists in faraway lands are plotting and planning new ways to kill Americans. The security of our country and the safety of our citizens depend on learning about their plans. The Protect America Act is a vital tool in stopping the terrorists -- and it would be a grave mistake for Congress to weaken this tool.
On another issue before Congress, I urge members to oppose the Armenian genocide now being considered by the House Foreign Affairs mittee. We all deeply regret the tragic suffering of the Armenian people that began in 1915. This is not the right response to these historic mass killings, and its passage would do great harm to our relations with a key ally in NATO and in the global war on terror.
Thank you.

President Bush Celebrates Black Music Month at the White Hou -
June 22, 20
THE PRESIDENT: Please be seated. Thank you. Rachel, thank you. Thanks for ing. Thanks for the introduction, and thanks for representing the United States. Proud to have you here.
I want to wele you all right here to the people's house. I'm pleased you could join us for this annual celebration of Black Music Month. This is an event I've always looked forward to. It's a chance to listen to some good music -- (laughter) -- and to be with some good friends. It's an opportunity for us to thank artists whose work inspire our country. And so thanks for ing. I hope you enjoy the day as much as I do.
I appreciate the fact that Alphonso is with us, Alphonso Jackson and Marcia. He's the Secretary of the Department of Housing and Urban Development. Dr. Dorothy Height is with us. I'm proud you're here, Dr. Height. Thanks for joining us. (Applause.) My friend, Bob Johnson has joined us. He knows a little something about black entertainment. (Laughter.) Thanks for ing. (Applause.) Roslyn Brock, Vice Chairman of the NAACP -- I'm proud you're here, Roslyn. Thank you for ing, thank you for joining us. Dyana Williams, President of the International Association of African American Music Foundation -- she knows something about music. (Laughter.) I appreciate Kevin Liles, Executive Vice President of the Warner Music pany. Thank you for ing. And Jonathan Platt, Senior Vice President of EMI Music Publishing and Virgin Records. Appreciate you all being here. Thanks for ing. (Applause.)
Most of all, thank you all. Thanks for taking time out of your day to e. One of the best things about living here is that some of the best musicians e to play. It's amazing what kind of talent you can draw here at the White House. (Laughter.) And over the years American Presidents have seen some fantastic African American musicians here on the White House stage. President Chester Arthur -- you might remember Chester -- (laughter) -- he weled the first black choir to perform at the White House, the Jubilee Singers from Fisk University. President Benjamin Harrison hosted one of the first black soloists to play at the White House, Sissieretta Jones, who was the daughter of a slave.
President William Howard Taft invited Joseph Douglass -- grandson of Frederick Douglass -- to perform here. Franklin Roosevelt hosted the great Marian Anderson, when she performed "Ave Maria" for the King and Queen of England. President Ronald Reagan hosted Mikhail Gorbachev, and invited the legendary Pearl Bailey to entertain. And when he introduced her, he just simply said -- simply, "our Pearl" -- wele "our Pearl." (Laughter.) I hope the translator got that right. (Laughter.)
And Laura and I had some incredible entertainers and Americans sing for us and our friends. We've had Eartha Kitt, Patti Austin, B.B. King, Irwin Mayfield, Aaron Neville, just to give you a taste of what happens here at the White House. Each of the performers has inspired people across the world with their talents, and each performer has brought great pride to the United States. It's really a great country that can produce a diverse group of musicians that can serve as ambassadors about what's right about America.
And we're proud to wele some new musicians here to the White House today. We're just keeping in a long trend of Presidents who have weled some of our great musicians here to the White House. So as we honor Black Music Month, it makes sense to bring some talent here to entertain us.
Karina Pasian grew up in New York City. She's the child of immigrants from the Dominican Republic. Her parents are both teachers in the New York Public School System, and early on it became clear that Karina had an incredible gift for music. At age 3 -- that's the definition of "early on" -- (laughter) -- she was singing and studying piano. By age 12 she was performing at the Coliseum in Rome before a television audience of more than a half-million people, alongside Alicia Keys and Stevie Wonder, and Andrea Bocelli. Today she's 15 years old. She's already recorded her first album. And despite of her young age, she tackles very mature issues with her music. She sings about hunger and disease in Africa, and the genocide in Darfur.
We appreciate that clarity, appreciate her bringing these issues to focus, to help more people understand that the world had got to do something about it -- now, before it's too late. I will tell you America is in the lead when it es to HIV/AIDS on the continent of Africa, we're on the lead when it es to feeding the hungry, we're on the lead when it es to eradicating malaria. And that's where we need to be, and that's where we will stay. And I appreciate very much Karina bringing this issue to focus. We're proud that you're here, and we're proud that you brought your big heart to this stage.
We're also going to wele KEM Owens, who learned to love music growing up in Detroit listening to R&B greats. He listened to them on his mom and dad's radio. He taught himself to play piano at the home of his Baptist minister grandfather. But as a teenager, this good man lost his way. He became addicted to drugs and alcohol, and eventually he became homeless. Today he finds a home, a warm home to wele him. He was sleeping on the ground near a building on the Detroit River, and he said this: God found him, and inspired him to set his life straight. With the help of the Almighty, he overcame his addictions, and he rediscovered his passion for music. In 2001, he used a credit card to finance the production of an independent CD he called "KEMistry". Get it, KEM Owens? (Laughter.) KEMistry? (Laughter.)
The disc sold 10,000 copies in five months. It caught the attention of music executives in New York who signed KEM to a major label deal. He has gone on to bee one of America's most popular R&B singers. But he knows the audience he's truly playing for. He says, "I want my life to be one that God will be pleased with. I'm by no means a saint." I know what you're saying, KEM. (Laughter and applause.) But he went on to say, "My eye is on the prize; He's not done with me yet." We're proud to wele such a man to the White House today.
And finally, Tourie and Damien Escobar discovered their love for the violin in the 3rd grade, and soon found themselves studying classical music at New York's finest conservatories. But they grew up in a tough neighborhood, and soon Tourie and Damien had drooped their music, dropped out of school, and fallen in with a bad crowd. Yet their mother and aunt never gave up hope. And with their encouragement and prayers, these two brothers returned to the music they loved. They formed a group called "Nuttin' But Stringz" -- performing a new music fusion that bridges classical, R&B and rap. I'm looking forward to it. (Laughter.)
They started by playing on subways, and went on to win amateur music contests at the Apollo Theater. And last month they released their first album. Here's what Tourie says: "The passion for music and the violin saved my life." And today that passion has brought these talented musicians right here to the White House.
All these artists represent the best of our country. They represent hope and hard work. We're looking forward to hearing them perform. They're going to be in a long list of performers who have e here to be able to entertain the country; to lend their musical talents to this, the people's house. I appreciate them ing to help us Black Music Month. I appreciate you all joining to help Black Music Month.
May God bless you, and may God continue to bless our country. (Applause.)

Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening
By Robert Frost
Whose woods these are I think I know.
His house is in the village though;
He will not see me stopping here
To watch his woods fill up with snow.
My little horse must think it queer
To stop without a farmhouse near
Between the woods and frozen lake
The darkest evening of the year.
He hives his harness bells a shake
To ask if there is some mistake.
The only other sound's the sweep
Of easy wind and downy flake.
The woods are lovely, dark and deep.
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.
